InnovateNB Table Auction Supporting 12 Neighbours
This year’s InnovateNB celebration extended beyond awards and recognition to include a meaningful opportunity to give back. Thanks to the generous contribution of J.D. Irving, Limited, InnovateNB featured a special table and bench auction showcasing handcrafted pieces originally built for the InnovateNB 2022 event.
We are pleased to share that a limited number of these live-edge benches and tables are still available for purchase. These one-of-a-kind pieces make a beautiful and functional addition to offices, boardrooms, collaborative spaces, or homes, while also supporting a cause that is making a real difference in New Brunswick.
Supporting 12 Neighbours and Marcel LeBrun’s Legacy
All proceeds from the table and bench sales will support 12 Neighbours, founded by Marcel LeBrun, this year’s InnovateNB Hall of Fame inductee. 12 Neighbours provides permanent housing and support services, including entrepreneurial training and counselling, for people experiencing homelessness.
Marcel’s work is rooted in empathy and a strong belief that long-term, community-driven solutions can address complex social challenges. Through this initiative, InnovateNB aims to raise $12,000 in support of 12 Neighbours, helping advance its mission to create stability, dignity, and opportunity for individuals across the province.
Crafted with Sustainability and Innovation in Mind
Each live-edge bench and table was crafted from hardwood yellow birch that was originally deemed unsuitable for milling due to natural defects. Through innovative and sustainable forestry practices, J.D. Irving, Limited salvaged the logs, sawed and dried the wood, and transformed it into custom-made furniture pieces that highlight the natural character of the material.
The trees used in these pieces are more than 100 years old, nearly as old as the company itself, which is celebrating its 140th anniversary this year. JDI is proud to use 100 per cent of every tree, producing value-added products like these tables while repurposing bark, sawdust, and shavings for green energy production.
